Description
Sheet Music for Eternal Mystery
Eternal Mystery is a collection of Orthodox Hymns for the Feast of the Annunciation of the Archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary, who was chosen by God from among all women born on earth to bear His own eternal Son, the Christ Child and long-awaited Messiah. This announcement revealed the beginning of God’s eternal plan of our salvation – to become incarnate, to reveal God to us through the person of His Son, Jesus Christ, to suffer and die for us on the Cross, bind Satan, and to rise again, that we might join Him in eternal light, love, and life. This was possible because Mary said “Yes” to God.
The album includes 40 tracks featuring chant melodies from the Kievan, Russo-Greek, Serbian, Bulgarian, and Byzantine traditions in settings by David Anderson, Vladimir Morosan, Peter Drobac, Frederick Karam and Anne Schoepp. It begins with the lovely Troparion for the Feast by Nazo Zakkak, and then in the Matins Canon, we hear the entire conversation between the Archangel and the Theotokos, with each ode followed by the soaring Katavasia of the Thetokos by Kurt Sander. Other compositions are two new settings of the Magnification by Anne Schoepp, (a two-part and a four-part setting), and a long-time favorite, the Greek melody for To You our Queen beautifully harmonized by Frederick Karam. Near the end, the hauntingly beautiful Serbian melody for The Lord has Chosen Zion by Peter Drobac develops into a full harmonization Anne Schoepp for the communion hymn.
The Seraphim Six Chorale is composed of singers from St. Lawrence Orthodox Church in Felton, CA.
